Nor that I speak in regard to need, for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content: Philippians 4:11
One of the greatest challenges in life is learning to be content. We struggle with contentment in our finances, relationships with others, and in our jobs, contentment seems ever elusive. It’s like grabbing water with your hand, as soon as you grab it; it pours back through your fingers. It is difficult to find contentment, but God in His infinite wisdom showed us how we can find true contentment.
The first thing we need to do is stop conforming to the world and its way of thinking. Then our decisions will not be based on what the world says you need in order to be content. Then it’s important to replace that line of thinking with the truth of God’s Word.
His Word tells us to trust Him to provide each and every one of our needs. His Word says we should pray for “our daily bread.” It tells us to live in today, and tomorrow will take care of itself. The Word says you can do all God asks you to do. He will empower you, keep you, and sustain you, no matter what.
Until you learn to trust completely in Him and live as close to the present as possible contentment will continue to be a fleeting desire. If you are not content where you are at the present, contentment will continue to elude you.
