Word 4 Today December 28, 2011

Unforgiveness is like an acid that eats away at your spirit.  You can’t see it.  Maybe it’s not clearly evident every day, but it will eventually seep its way into your relationships, your work or school, and all aspects of your life.  While you may simply think you’re hurting the other person by not forgiving them, you’re actually destroying yourself.

In God’s eyes, unforgiveness is serious business.  After all, forgiveness was important enough to Him that He allowed His only Son to die a sacrificial death.  Own up to your negative spirit and confess it to God.  Let go of your anger by asking God for forgiveness.  Begin praying for the other person.  If you’ve asked God to remove your bitterness, then this will be much easier than you think.  Ask God to intervene in the other person’s life, if needed.  Finally, ask the other person for forgiveness.  You’ll be amazed at how relieved you feel when the burden of guilt disappears.  And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you” (Eph. 4:32).

Dear Lord, forgiveness has so many benefits, why would I not want to forgive?  It takes so much pressure off of me and gives me so much peace.  It does wonders for me and good to the one I have forgiven.  It keeps God’s blessings coming my way and His Spirit flowing through me.

Am I strong enough to carry the weight of unforgiveness all day long?
