Word 4 Today December 4, 2011

Question of the day: I am very much involved with the Lord, and most of my family doesn’t understand why.  Have you ever experienced this?

Are you kidding?  I have been a Christian for thirty years, and I still experience misunderstanding from friends and family. It’s funny that the same people who liked you when you were a “nut” at parties and drunk or high, have a hard time accepting you for being a “nut” for the cause of Christ.

I guess people liked you better when you were “the old nut, the unhappy nut, the miserable nut, the lying, no-good, cheating nut” (sounds like a country-western song) rather than the “new nut,” who wishes them all happiness and a simple life—a life filled with all of the earthly and eternal riches God has to offer.

Jesus said, No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other.  You cannot serve God and mammon” (Matt. 6:24).

Dear Lord, all I can say is for the first thirty-three years of life, I was a world-class “nut,” and it didn’t work.  Today I am a follower of Jesus the Christ (the Anointed One), and I’ve never been happier.

God delights in using common “nuts” to accomplish uncommon things.
