There are two paths.  One goes up, and one down.  God has given us free will in order to choose either path.  We are truly captains of our own ship to this extent; we can choose the good or the bad.  On the wrong path, we have no power for good; but on the right path, we are on the side of good, and we have all the power of God’s spirit behind us.  That each of you should know how to posses his own vessel in sanctification and honor …” (1 Thess. 4:4).

All material things are valueless in themselves alone.  But all activities, seemingly trivial or with great values, are all alike if directed by God’s guidance.  Let me try to obey God today, as I would expect a faithful, willing servant to carry out directions.

But he who is greatest among you shall be your servant.  And whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.”  (Matt. 23:11–12)
