Word 4 Today October 7, 2011

When adversity strikes, do not say, “Why did this happen to me?”  Leave yourself out of the picture.  Think about other people and their troubles, and you will forget about your own.  Gradually get away from yourself, and you will receive the blessing of unselfish service to others.  After a while, you will not worry so much about you, but how your experience will help and benefit others.  Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interest of others” (Phil. 2:4).

Today I will prepare myself by doing what I can to develop spiritually.  I know that God will bend me and train me in order to conform to His will.  If I am not properly trained, I cannot meet God’s tests when they come.  No chastening seems to be joyful for the present, but painful; nevertheless, afterward it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it” (Heb. 12:11).

We become our own worst enemies when we allow self to creep in!

  1. Mike says:

My biggest obstacle so far in my recovery has been my self. By listening to the Spirit instead of my ego, I am able to move forward and serve God and my fellow man. Thank you for this reminder. God bless you.
