We should always try to forget the “things” which are behind us and press forward to something better.  Not necessarily all things, those things that were good, the fond memories and love we have shared should always be remembered.  But it is time to let go of all “things” that have brought us down and made us feel guilty. Time to forget all past mistakes and heartaches.  Time to let go of all the negative self-talk, ridicule, and criticism.  There is no place in our lives for those things now.  God has already forgiven our past sins.  He has cleansed us from the mistakes we have made in the past.  It is time for us now to forgive ourselves and move forward towards success.  The slate has been wiped clean and we can go confidently forward to the prize, which lies ahead.  …But one thing I do, forgetting those things, which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.  Philippians 3:13-14

What a relief it is to be able to drop the load of the past; finally all of my sin, all of my sorrow and all of my disappointment gone.  Now I can move freely into the future with a new confidence that God will work all things out for my good.  I am reinvigorated, recharged, looking onward and upward for the prize.

I can never fly when I am saddled by the past.
