Word 4 Today July 23, 2011

This year alone more than three hundred thousand people will attempt suicide!  This month over five million prescriptions for Valium will be dispensed.  Today we will treat more than four thousand cases of mental illness.  The number of “crack” and “speed” addicts is growing at a speed too swiftly to calculate and we now consume more alcohol per capita than any other time in history. What’s the problem?  The truth is, that we are all human and what we have in common is we all have issues and problems. Surrounding myself with others who shared the same problem has helped keep me sober over twenty-five years.  If I had remained isolated I would have ended up dead or in a mental hospital.  Instead, I learned from listening to others that I was not uncommon or some kind of freak, but a person of worth who had a problem.  … the Father of mercies and God of all comfort… comforts us in all tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble…. 2 Corinthians 1:3, 4

Trials come to all of us, we’re human and that’s the way it is, but Lord we know it is Your nature to always come to our aid.  You are the God of all comfort, understanding and mercy, thank You for training us to be a comfort to others.

We will never appreciate basic training, until there’s a battle!
