Word 4 Today May 11, 2011

In the Book of Acts, the Apostle Paul and Silas had been attacked by a mob, beaten by soldiers, thrown in stocks and shoved into a dark, high-security prison cell.  This all happened because they had cast out a demon that had taken possession of a slave girl.  How did they react?  With prayer and singing!  Faith immediately filled their hearts despite the horrible situation and conditions they were forced to endure.  Notice they did not meditate on the injustice or despair in the outcome but trusted God to deliver them.  What was the outcome?  (Acts 16:25)  But at midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them.  Suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken; and immediately all the doors were opened and everyone’s chains were loosed.

Lord, we all have a song to sing and all-though the situation may feel overwhelming, we are to trust You despite our circumstances.  Lord, we all have prison doors that are closed that only you can shake open, but we know that in the midnight hour, You always come through.  We lift up our voice to herald the coming victory, in Jesus’ name.

No matter what you are going through, prayer and praise will open up any door.
