Word 4 Today May 9, 2011

I was up early one morning questioning God about His will, plan, and purpose for my life.  It’s been over 3 years now since I left my full time job and heeded the call of God to go into ministry.  At that time we just bought a new home, car, furniture and at the same time our daughter started her first year of college.  All I had to rely on was the confidence of God’s call, my wife’s support, a little money I earned from writing, retirement, and a home that we had sold in California.

The step of faith can be a scary one and I was just not at all sure where the Lord was taking me.  I am not the only one, most of you know that God has a specific plan and purpose (A better way) for your life but may wonder what it is, and when it’s going to happen.  God loves what He does.  Sitting in the darkness in my recliner, the still small voice of His Holy Spirit uttered these words that I had read from Mother Teresa.  “We can do no great things, only small things with great love.  Give God inches of love, we can trust Him for the miles.”    I’m thinking, Lord what does that mean and then a Bible verse comes to mind.  Zechariah 4:10 – “For who has despised the day of small things?”  It meant that God gives “bigger” and “greater” things and responsibilities to those who handle the “small things.”  So after struggling with the big issues of life He reduced His will for me at the present moment to performing “Simple Acts Of Kindness.”

Lord if all it takes is a few simple acts, why don’t I do more of them?  Remove my selfishness and help me to reach out to those who are hurting.  Allow me just to be kind with everyone I meet today.

Kindness is the seed from which great acts come, be kind.
