TOO CLOSE TO HOME

Recently, I received e-mail from a friend, stating a recent poll indicated that 86% of U.S. residents believe in God and feel that “In God we trust” should remain on all of our currency.  I submit today that 100% believe in God or there would be no reason to deny His existence.  It‘s not the 14% of those denying the existence of a creator that I am concerned with.  Although all souls are precious to God, I am more concerned with the 86% who claim to know Him.  In a recent survey researcher George Barna, author of Americans’ Bible Knowledge is in the Ballpark, But Often Off Base,  (http://www.barna .org) found that out of the 1,003 adults who claimed to be Christians, only:  58% believed the devil is just a symbol.  39% thought Jesus was human and committed sins.  61% think the Holy Spirit is a symbol and not a living entity.  75% believe that God helps those who help themselves.  60% think the Bible is accurate in all that it teaches.  A staggering 44% believe it doesn’t matter what religion you follow, and you’re telling me that 86% know God?  Even “Religious People” divorce at a rate of over 50% and drugs, alcohol, pornography, homosexuality, extramarital and premarital sex, cussing, stealing and lying seem to be the rule rather than the exception.

Don’t be consumed by your arrogance, before you say ‘I would never do those kinds of things’ think: about gossip, greed, judgment, selfishness, anger, bitterness, envy, lust, sexism, pride, un-forgiveness and indifference.  (Guilty, your Honor.)  Now it comes Close To Home.  If we are so doctrinally ignorant about who God is and what His requirement for a rich, abundant, joyous and eternal life is, should we really be overly concerned with “what’s on currency” or whether or not the “Ten Commandments” should be posted on a wall?  (A Gallup poll found that six in ten Americans couldn’t even name half of the Ten Commandments)  I guess the question that needs to be asked is not whether we know God or not, the question should be, does He know you?  It is impossible for us as human beings to ever come close to the holiness that God requires for you to stand before Him.

PRAYER 4 TODAY

Romans 3:23-24 – Since all have sinned, and are falling short of the honor and glory, which God bestows and receives. {All} are justified and made upright and in right standing with God, freely by His grace {His unmerited favor and mercy}, through the redemption which is {provided} in Christ Jesus.  Jesus told His disciples, John 14:6- “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man comes to the Father but by me.”  He was saying that unless you know Him, the Father would not know you.  Let me close with the words of Christ Himself.  John 10:26-30}  My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.  “And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand.  “My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of my Fathers hand.  “I and My Father are one.”
