Word 4 Today April 15, 2011

The Holy Spirit is represented as a Dove.  If you watch a Dove they are the most gentle of all birds, quiet and always at peace.  Doves do not bother you and they don’t make a mess.  They are beautiful birds to watch but are very elusive; they will flee at even the slightest annoyance.  Listen, even when they coo, it’s peaceful.  They just have a gentle way about them, a nature that is completely different from lets say a seagull or a pigeon.  It is that kind of quiet Spirit God wants us to have, not boisterous, loud, rude or obnoxious but gentle, kind, sympathetic, and sensitive to the needs of others. Willing to sooth and minister to, comfort and mourn with, anyone who needs it.  And John bore witness, saying, “I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and He remained upon Him… ” John 1:32

Lord, develop in me the spirit of gentleness like Jesus had.  The Holy Spirit came in the form of a dove and would not have remained on Him if He were not, humble, kind, considerate, loving, and good.  Lord I want to be like that.  May the spirit that lives inside of me take me to new levels of gentleness and love.

Pigeon or Dove – which would you, rather be?  Coo.
