Word 4 Today April 14, 2011

One of God’s greatest attributes is faithfulness.  He is always who He says He is, and does what He says He will do.  If He says He will never leave us, mark it down.  If He promises to provide “all” of our needs, put it in the bank.  He is never early or never late, but always on time.  Every promise He gives us we can always rely on.  Every gift we have received is perfect.  In an ever-changing world, God is the only source that we can genuinely depend on, always consistent and ever present.  We know that we can in no way make all of the promises of God and keep them, but we certainly need to try our very best.  When we make a promise we should keep it, if we can’t, don’t make it.  We are only as good as our word, if our word means nothing, then we are nothing.  Our entire being, our credibility and character are all based on how faithful we are to one another.  Faithfulness is important to God, so it should be important to us.  Our word to others should be as trustworthy as our oath to God.  “But let your ‘yes’ be ‘yes,’ and your ‘no,’ ’no.’ For whatever is more than these is from the evil one.”  Matthew 5:37

Let me not make a promise I can’t keep and if for any reason I can’t, may I at least call and give the reason.  Lord, let me do all I can to keep my word, that’s all I have.  Today let me be responsible and faithful in all I do, no matter how small, I will keep my word.

There is nothing more uncomfortable than putting my foot in my mouth.
