Word 4 Today April 13, 2011

What makes something good?  It is not so much the product as it is what that product produces.  A steak is good because it provides flavor.  An orange is good because provides sweet taste and lots of nutrition.  A car is good because it gets us from place to place.  Medicine is good because it helps one feel better, so my guess is that a person is good because they provide something of value and purpose to others.  We are good when we add flavor, nutrition, purpose and healing to other people.  On our own we have no value, function or purpose, it is only what we produce and provide that gives us value.  If I don’t give, if I don’t like being nice, or just don’t care, am I adding anything?  I am like an apple just hanging on a tree, yes, I’m an apple, but do I have value?  Am I giving at all of what I had been created for?  …walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God.  Colossians 1:10

Lord, thank You, for giving us the opportunity to share ourselves with others.  May I learn that unless I share myself with others, I will only be a product that will never accomplish the purpose it was created for.

An apple is only as good as the flavor it brings to others.
