Word 4 Today January 23, 2011

Do not let little things distract you from the goal you are striving for.  What’s the goal we all strive for?  The good life!  Do not be overcome by the small trials and temptations that come our way each day.  Remember the goal!  When you climb up a mountain, you do not look at every little rock beside you; instead you look to the summit, the top of the mountain, the goal.  You look at the glorious landscape around you and your climb becomes endurable.  If you do this, before you know it you have climbed to the top of the mountain and you have successfully reached your goal.  “For I know the thoughts that I think towards you,” says the Lord, “thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.”  Jeremiah 29:11

Dear Lord, sometimes we feel tempted to give up and stop pressing towards our goal.  Sometimes I feel overlooked, forgotten, mistreated, and tempted to quit.  Today I will remember that while disappointments are inevitable; discouragement is a choice.  Today I will focus on the top of the mountain; the goal, not the little rocks that are in my way.

Keep your eyes on the mountaintop!
