Word 4 Today November 30, 2010

Proverbs 30:32 – If you have been foolish in exalting yourself, or if you have devised evil, put your hand on your mouth. We cover our mouth when we cough to avoid spreading germs and making other people sick.  It should be the same way when words of

self-praise, exaltation, or criticism come out of our mouths.  Think about your words and if you are tempted to gossip, be prideful, rude or critical, cover your mouth.  Some habits we form in life are hard to break and this is one of the hardest especially when we are in the company of those who do the same.  Try to avoid situations that may cause you to stumble.  If the lunch crowd sits at a table and gossip, you might want to go for a walk.  Being honest is the best way to deal with this issue.  First admit you have a problem with your mouth then ask God to guard it.

Lord, guard my mouth and heart today.  Everything I say is already in my heart or it would not come out.  Give me a clean heart and if I am tempted to gossip and be critical put Your mighty hand over my mouth.  Respect yourself and others, always cover your mouth when you are tempted to gossip or brag, it makes people sick.

Everything starts and ends with God… praise God!
